Shannon Young began studying dance at the age of two in Rochester, NY. She continued her training in Charlotte, NC where she was an accomplished competitive dancer winning numerous regional and national awards. Under the direction of Pamela Sofras, she attended University of North Carolina Charlotte where she earned her BA in Dance Education (K-12). In 2010, she also became certified through Dance Masters of America. While attending UNC Charlotte, Shannon was a member of MOVE Dance Alliance and enjoyed performing in various modern ensembles. Upon graduation, Shannon started Move It! Dance Company and traveled to different preschool and after-school programs teaching dance. She has been assisting and teaching for over 15 years in the North and South Carolina area and loves teaching kids of all ages. Shannon has been a dance educator for Charlotte Mecklenburg Schools for the past 8 years. She currently teaches at Mint Hill Middle school where she also coaches the dance team and works closely with the music and theater department on numerous productions. Shannon also loves teaching for the CMS summer program, Spectrum of the Arts, where she gets to work with some of the districts leading arts students.
